It’s amazing how different we all are! One person is dreamy, another is tall. Some have a different skin colour than most people around them, and some find things difficult that others find easy. It’s all perfectly normal. But what is normal anyway?
That’s exactly what this picture book is about: pictures, comics, photos, funny and thought-provoking texts and stories that encourage us to see people in a new and different light. They all show that we have much more in common than we have differences. And they encourage us to be ourselves and let others be themselves – normal and very special.

What is normal, anyway? Who decides? Is it good or bad to be normal? Using comic strips, photos, collages, texts, and stories, ten artists from the Frankfurt Labor Ateliergemeinschaft have explored these questions, which are becoming increasingly important in our heterogeneous society. What people consider normal depends, among other things, on their age, their background, and the time in which they live. That’s why this colorful mix also includes interviews with children from all over the world and conversations with adults about experiences from their childhood in which they didn’t feel normal.
