Summary:
Six little chicks, freshly hatched – and one of them is already up to no good. Chick dreams of soon becoming a proud, magnificent rooster. One who scares away the evil fox with his crowing. But when Chick grows up, everything turns out differently than expected. Chick doesn’t grow a comb or magnificent tail feathers – because Chick is a hen! But Chick proves that you don’t need a comb to be strong and brave!

A picture book about a special chick who dreams of becoming a heroic rooster and even the “boss rooster” of the coop. Meschenmoser depicts these dreams with a wink: What does life hold for me? Where is my place? The picture book sensitively addresses these important questions, deals with identities, and ultimately turns Chick into a courageous heroine. Complex yet lighthearted – a wonderfully narrated and illustrated volume about self-confidence and the search for one’s place in life.
