HerStory:50 Women and Girls Who Shook the World

Summary:

This book pays tribute to fifty remarkable women and girls from around the world, spanning centuries. While the deeds of some of them have been duly recognized, others did not receive recognition during their lifetime. Whether they were leaders of nations or movements, talented artists or scientists, or devoted their lives to helping those in need, they achieved extraordinary things, defied established orders and social expectations, and showed how it is possible to change the world for the better. You will also read about heroines who did not give up their convictions and principles even in the face of great evil and danger. And all this so that the world would be a better place to live in the future.

Comment:

The stories show not only young readers that countless girls and women have played a significant role in the course of human history. The book can correct the often stereotypical and one-sided teaching of history, which predominantly features male historical figures and personalities, especially from the Euro-American context. It thus challenges the narrative that world history is only the history of white men.
