Blazno resno o seksu
(Bloody Serious About Sex) Book not yet available in English
Summary:
Fredi and Rožca are best friends. They are very different people, but they tell each other everything. Fredi is handsome and in full bloom, even able to grow some body hair; Rožca looks like a potato sack with zits. Every time one of them notices a change on their bodies, they immediately phone the other to tell them about it. Biba and Tina are the same. Biba is one of those thirteen-year-old girls who have the body of a Barbie doll, and perfect hair and skin. Tina, on the other hand, is short, chubby and rather hairy for her age. But Biba and Tina are just as inseparable as the boys. With the help of these four characters, the book lays bare the mysteries of growing up: why do people dislike their bodies, what do boys and girls dream about at night, how babies are made, what do boys have that girls don’t and the other way around, what is real love, having a crush, why do teenagers so often fall in love with people much older than themselves, how to attract the attention of people we like, when to start kissing and having sex, how to say no and other questions essential for growing up. The book is chock-full of advice, examples and intriguing quizzes that allow the reader to learn plenty new things. (source: publisher)

Comment:
Parts of the Bloody Serious About … series, including this book, have been issued for a reprint after ten years of success. The author Desa Muck adapted the text and made some small alterations to it while the illustrator Matej de Cecco provided new black-and-white illustrations and some cartoons. Those fit the new and improved text better as well as prove to be a great accompaniment to it. The main topic of the book is one of the “timeless” problems of youth growing up: sexual maturation. The author positions herself understandingly on the side of kids, yet is firm and unambiguous in separating fact from teenage folly and fiction. Her ability to navigate between education and rebellion with a positive and humorous tone will appeal greatly to teenagers. Bloody Serious about Sex is a handbook of sex for teenagers including numerous quizzes, advice, instructions and meditations concerning this bottomless pit of a topic, but there is also a fun plot in there. The final part of the book offers some useful information pertaining to sex and sex-related problems that teenagers might encounter and should consult if needed. The book has received the Golden Pear Mark of Quality.
