Comment:
Isabella Paglia’s simple and understandable language is accompanied by Francesca Cavallaro’s funny drawings in order to tell a sweet story that makes one smile and reflect on the different forms of fatherhood. There is the dad who works as a mechanic, there is the veterinarian, there is the dad who shops for food, there is the one who accompanies his children to the beach, there is the one who irons heaps of clothes and does house chores (it is a pity that the expression “he helps mum” is used, as to suggest that housework is a woman’s prerogative). The book also has the merit of showing positive male models, which unfortunately still have little room in Italian children’s literature, and of presenting different types of families (e. g., single parent and extended). However, the models presented exclude other types of families, in particular queer families.
