The tunnel

Summary:

This book is about a brother and sister who have an adventure together. The brother always taunts his sister, saying she is frightened and a baby, but his sister soon proves her bravery.

Comment:

In this subversion of the Little Red Riding Hood story, the girl character who is continually taunted by her brother for being scared, emotional, and a baby, saves her brother through the emotion he has often maligned. The narrative undoes gender stereotypes and shows emotion and love as powerful rather than as a source of girlishness, vulnerability, or shame.
