Pardalita
Summary:
When Raquel begins to tell us her story, Pardalita has already entered her life. Not suddenly, but slowly and subtly, first in the school corridors, then at theatre rehearsals. Raquel only knows her by sight, but she’s counting the days until she meets her again and starts to notice the tiniest things – like the label on Pardalita’s sweatshirt that touches the skin on her neck. Raquel begins to wonder: ‘How far can you be from someone without giving the impression that you don’t want any distance?’

With a lot of Titanic in between, the sea always nearby, verbs in English almost sung, references to immigration, the tragic love story between Hero and Leandro in the background and a soundtrack that is between The Rolling Stones and António Variações, Joana Estrela drew a comic about the turmoil of existence, where the discovery of love is appropriate, the blessing of friendship, the boundary between what one thinks and what one says and, above all, the discovery of the “I”, something that must be averse to the echoes and opinions of the world.
