Comment:
The well-known series of “P’tites poules” (Little chicken) stories regularly explores gender stereotypes. In the very first story in the series, intrepid little Carméla sets out to see the sea and ends up crossing the Atlantic on a ship with a certain Christopher Columbus. Her son, a little pink chicken, is impatient for a little brother to play with. His disappointment when his little sister comes along is matched only by his surprise as he discovers the incredible talents of this extraordinary little chick, who is brave, intelligent and funny as well as resourceful. An unexpected, irresistible little sister!
