Guts

Summary:

Food brings us all together, but what if someone is afraid of food and worries that some foods are bad for them? This is exactly what teenage Raina is going through, while her classmates revel in disgusting foods and the biggest event at school is when stomach flu breaks out. But Raina’s stomach problems aren’t going away, and she also has a lot of worries about growing up, schoolwork, and friends. What’s going on?

Comment:

Guts deals with topics such as eating disorders, bullying among children, respect, and therapy. The book shows the importance of respect and being understanding towards others, which can help them, instead of making fun of them. It can share these experiences with younger readers and pass on important values like empathy, while also showing some of them that they’re not alone and encouraging them to seek help.
