Comment:
The novel is a retelling of the story of Snow White. Lumikki (which is a Finnish translation to Snow White) breaks the stereotypical gender roles of fairy tales by being a strong and active character. Lumikki is described as peculiar, reserved and very independent. She lives alone in a small apartment and does not enjoy the company of other people. As the story progresses, Lumikki’s background and the reasons for her extreme reticence and caution are gradually revealed to the reader. The novel is a thriller that deals with drug trafficking and crimes, but at the same time it also tells about a young person’s independence, the effects of bullying, and the secrets that are difficult to bear.
