Summary:
August was born with a face deformity, which prevents most people around him from getting in touch with him beyond this involuntary mask. Now he is starting school for the first time, straight into fifth grade. The book is a perfectly constructed kaleidoscope of perspectives from August himself, his sister Via and her friends, and August’s classmates on the same situation, on how he, his family, and his classmates react to this big change. The entire book is permeated with gentle humour, which makes it easier for young readers to approach such a demanding topic. Also suitable for adult readers.

Through introspective and distinctive storytelling, full of gentle humor, readers slowly gain a new perspective on the world of the main character from different angles. The book not only describes the experiences of a person with a congenital disability and how they perceive the reactions of those around them, but also the situation of their immediate surroundings and how they perceive their otherness and functioning in a group.
