Summary:
Sixteen-year-old Vivian has had enough. She no longer wants to listen to her classmates’ sexist remarks, the injustices of the school administration, or how everyone still thinks she’s an obedient and good girl. When she discovers that her mother was a member of the Riot Grrrl punk movement, she decides to rebel. She begins anonymously publishing the feminist magazine Ranařky and organising protests, which are joined by more and more girls. Vivian suddenly realises that she has started a revolution in a small Texas town. She has also found a new path to herself and her mother, in whom she reawakens the confident and energetic woman she once was.

Sixteen-year-old Vivian attends high school, and instead of being able to focus on her studies in peace, she has to deal with sexism from her classmates, teachers, and school administrators. When she discovers that her mother was a member of the punk feminist movement Riot Grrrls, she decides to follow in her footsteps and start a revolution in her small town. By telling a personal story about her fight against sexism (not only) in high school, the book provides a vivid portrayal of sexism and the social pressure that affects women of all ages. At the same time, it serves as a model of intergenerational inspiration and motivation to stand up for oneself, find one’s own feminism, and not let oneself be suffocated by patriarchal society. The book was also adapted into a film a couple of years ago.
