Alison Bechdel gathered her drawings, diaries, maps of a small town in Pennsylvania, letters, and family documents to create a personal and honest portrait of her own life and growing up. Based on these materials, she created a family tragicomedy about her complicated relationship with her father, which became the subject of her debut book. The author herself claims that if she had made up the story, it would have been worthless. The result, however, is a unique and profound literary work combining images and text.
